What’s the outlook for MDM?

Even though Gartner forecasts reduced expenditures in certain areas of I.T. this article expects MDM to fare better.

They forecast ”spending will increase by 6.6 percent in 2009 to US$244.3 billion”,  instead of Gartner’s previous forecast of “9.5 percent growth at $253.1 billion”.   If they are right it’s still good in this economy.

One of the main areas they expect slowdown is SOA.  As mentioned,  ”some technologies will fare better than others”, Gartner said.   “…software aimed at optimizing how organizations are run, such as BPM (business process management) and MDM (master data management) will fare better” Gartner said.

An effective MDM project can actually reduce a companies “all in” costs by reducing hours spent on analysis, increase accuracy and completeness of data.  This can facilitate more timely and accurate business intelligence resulting in reduced organizational costs and even increased revenue.
